Finch Lake Overnight

July, 2001

The photos on this page were taken during a YMCA of the Rockies backcountry overnight trip. Guided by Joe and Paris, we left the Allenspark trailhead early on Tuesday, July 10, 2001. The first half of the trail to Finch Lake is fairly steep, but it levels out nicely after the burn area. The last little drop into Finch Lake is easy going in, but not much fun on the return trip.

Finch Lake is fishless, but nearby streams provided plenty of catch and release cutthroat action. The combination of remoteness and scenic beauty made the fishing very enjoyable. The catching was pretty good, too, though the fish could be fairly selective at times.

All in camp enjoyed the cheese and crackers and chicken burritos. Thanks again to Joe, Paris, and the YMCA of the Rockies for providing this opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, bind families closer, and make new friends. To see a full size image, click on any thumbnail below.

I'd love to hear from any visitors to this page who were on the trip. Please send me an email

PS - Joe, I hope the tipless rod is all healed!
